We have multiple internship opportunities in Thales UK Optronics & Missile Electronics (OME) over summer 2024. This opportunity sits within Engineering, specifically Innovation & Technology.
Location
The internships are within the OME business of Thales and will be based in Glasgow. Thales embrace flexibility when it comes to working patterns and we will be happy to discuss options that best suit you.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a talented Innovation & Product Design Intern, who can apply their creativity and skills across a number of our Optronics projects. As part of a global innovation strategy to drive user centric innovation, we have established an innovation hub within the Glasgow office. The aim of the innovation hub, branded the Design Centre, is to promote innovation methodology and to deliver products that excite existing and new markets. Working for the innovation and technology manager, you will assist with enabling project teams to understand the benefits of user-centric design, industrial design systems, human factors and UX.
Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • A good visual communicator; sketching and familiarity with graphics packages are desirable.
  • Conceptualisation and development of new products, creating aspects of form and function, aesthetics, physical and psychological interfaces between users and products.
  • Knowledge of UX design.
  • Conceptual sketching, ideation, and CAD modelling.

Minimum Educational Requirements
Candidate will have completed at least year 3 of Honours course by summer 2024.
Acceptable disciplines:
  • Product Design
  • Graphics Design
  • Human Factors

By the end of the placement, the candidate will be able to
  • Facilitate workshops/exhibitions and promote UX design
  • Visually communicate outcomes from workshops
  • Visually communicate new product concepts

Salary and Benefits
Compensation for this placement is pro rata GBP22,500 per annum. You will also receive pro-rated benefits in line with Thales employees.
