Job description

We are recruiting a Matron to work within the East Midlands Elective Care Hub and join the wider established team of Matrons within the ITAPS Clinical Management Group (CMG).
As the Elective Care Hub develops and grows over time, so too will the Matrons role. We want every patient to have the best possible care and support. So, we’ve started an extensive re-organisation of our three sites in Leicester – the Leicester Royal Infirmary, the Leicester General Hospital and the Glenfield Hospital.
As part of that work, we're creating the East Midlands Elective Care Centre at the Leicester General Hospital, a multi million pound investment to improve care and reduce waiting lists for the people of Leicester and beyond.
We are now working towards phase two that will open in late 2024 and will consist of 14 outpatient rooms, four clean rooms and a surgical day case facility, together with two 18-bedded wards dedicated to elective day case / 23-hour surgical activity as well as medical day case for Oncology, Haematology and Gastroenterology patients.
Candidates will need to be available to interview on Thursday the 25th of January 2024.
In the first phase of the role, the Matron will be required to work both as a clinical lead within the team and also help us work towards delivering the second phase when more of the hub opens.
This means the role will require the post holder to balance managing the day to day delivery within the Operating Theatre in phase 1 alongside planning for the long term and ensuring we are working towards opening the Arrivals area, both Theatres, the Recovery Areas and the overnight Surgical Ward within the hub.
As well as planning and driving daily activity, the Matron will be required to work clinically in phase 1 so ideally we are seeking someone with existing Theatre skills or excellent transferable skills.
The post holder will be required to be flexible and adaptable as the demands of the role will change over time, but links into the wider project teams and senior leaders/managers from the ITAPS CMG will be on hand to guide and support during this exciting time.
As this is a new role with changing expectations, a conversation with the Head of Nursing for ITAPS would be highly recommended.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
