Job Description: ICU Nurse
Position: ICU Nurse Location: Guildford Reports to: Nurse Manager, Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
As an ICU Nurse, you will be an integral part of the healthcare team, providing specialized care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). You will be responsible for monitoring patients, administering treatments, managing life support equipment, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standard of care for patients in critical condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
Conduct thorough assessments of patients admitted to the ICU, including vital signs, neurological status, and overall condition.
Monitor patients closely for any signs of deterioration or changes in status, and promptly report any concerns to the attending physician.
Interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory results to assess patient progress and response to treatment.
- Treatment Administration:
Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by physicians.
Monitor patients' responses to medications and treatments, and adjust interventions as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
Perform advanced procedures such as ventilator management, arterial line insertion, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Life Support Management:
Manage and operate life support equipment such as mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps.
Ensure proper functioning of equipment and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
Provide assistance during emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).
- Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education and emotional support throughout their ICU stay.
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care conferences to discuss patient progress and plan of care.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses to treatment.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies regarding documentation and record keeping.
- Professional Development:
Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in critical care nursing through continuing education, conferences, and professional organizations.
Pursue opportunities for certification and advanced training in critical care nursing to enhance clinical expertise.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (preferred).
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in State .
Minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care nursing, with at least 1 years of experience in critical care or ICU settings.
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
