Job description

Are you passionate about working in and looking after one of the most beautiful landscapes in Britain – famous for its natural beauty, cultural heritage and incredible opportunities for enjoyment? Could you thrive as part of an outstanding organisation such as the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our Ranger team and make a real difference.

About Us

We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, an organisation that protects, enhances and promotes the immense beauty, wildlife and character of the Yorkshire Dales. Set against expansive heather moorland tops, each valley has its own distinct charm, from crags and waterfalls to an underground labyrinth of caves.

Due to a member of staff moving on, we are currently looking for a Three Peaks Ranger to join us on a permanent basis. The role is part-time, 30 hours worked over 4 days per week (although we will consider reducing this to 22.5 hours worked over 3 days per week for the right person). You will be based from our workshop in Stainforth near Settle.

The Benefits

  • Salary of £24,293 to £27,334, pro rata, per annum
  • Holiday entitlement starting at 26 days plus bank holidays, pro rata
  • Flexi time scheme
  • Local government defined benefit pension scheme (LGPS)
  • Subsidised Healthcare scheme
  • Employee discounts on various goods and services
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free parking
  • Commitment to Wellbeing
  • Relocation allowance available

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the National Park and work in the iconic Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales.

The Role

You will be primarily concerned with the maintenance of the public rights of way network and other access routes and it’s essential you can plan and implement, to a high standard, a variety of practical tasks.

You will play a key role in maintaining engineered paths on the Three Peaks challenge route as well as assisting the Area Manager with developing and implementing the Three Peaks Project.

Interacting, informing and advising visitors on the appropriate use of, and behaviour in, the National Park will also be a regular activity.

About You

With experience of upland path management techniques, including the ability and experience of driving small plant, you will be able to work independently, or in area or park-wide teams, as required.

You will need to be self-motivated and able to work effectively without close supervision, in all weather conditions!

Good communication and interpersonal skills are required to liaise and engage with landowners, farmers and visitors, together with the ability and experience of developing opportunities for volunteers and motivating their performance.

You will need to have a full driving licence, due to the required travelling and visiting of sites around the Park.

You will be required to undertake a criminal records (DBS) check as part of the recruitment process.

We aspire to have a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply and join us.

We are a Disability Confident employer and guarantee to interview anyone with a disability whose application meets the essential criteria for the role.

For an informal discussion and to find out more about the role, please contact Kate Hilditch, Area Manager, on 01756 751623 or email kate.hilditch@yorkshiredales.org.uk.

The closing date for completed applications is 11pm onWednesday 1 May 2024 with the interview anticipated to take place on Thursday 9 May 2024.
