Job description

The purpose of this role is to support the Press & Fabrication’s Manager in all aspects of tooling, machine/equipment breakdown, special projects, including the facilities upkeep and maintenance. The ideal candidate will be largely positioned in the Tool Room where they will be operating manual and semi-CNC controlled machines,

Core duties:

  • Maintain safe working practices and observe Health & Safety regulations in accordance with Company Policy & current legislation at all times.
  • Ensure that the department maintains a high standard of Housekeeping (cleanliness of workspace and related areas) throughout.
  • Review daily Tool Room & Facilities plan/targets, highlighting critical paths and/or concerns to Line
  • Use of ERP ordering system to order small tools, materials, PPE, etc.
  • 1st line response to all Machine and Equipment breakdowns, following escalation process to resolve issue in a timely manner.
  • Manage Service Contractors and Statutory Inspections on site, responding to open actions/non-conformances, etc.
  • Support and maintain continuous improvements including 5S activities onsite to a high standard.
  • The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not restrictive and the post holder may be required to undertake any other duties which may be required from time to time.

The successful candidate will have the following experiences and attributes:

  • Time Served Apprentice, with tool room and fitting experience.
  • Experience in the service and general repair of press tooling – Punch and Die.
  • Proficient in use of all related tools/equipment – Surface grinders, Mill, lathe, semi-CNC Mill, etc.
  • Use of engineering measuring instruments – Vernier, Micrometre, etc.
  • Understanding/experience of pneumatics, hydraulics and electrics would be an advantage.
  • Understand design principles of light metal work and be able to read, verify and interpret engineering/production drawings, material specifications and technical standards.
  • An understanding of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and reporting KPI’s.
