Tooling And Maintenance Engineer

The Tooling & Maintenance Engineer is a key role within the production team, working closely alongside the process engineering team, with a broad remit to support the powertrain operations facility producing high performance engines. Specifically, the responsibilities of the position focus on the provision, maintenance and continuous improvement of production Tooling and equipment with a view to achieving excellent levels of facility availability and uptime.
Additional/special features of the role:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Process Engineering team and Production Manager:
Ensure maintenance schedules and instructions are in place, regularly reviewed and updated as required.
Provide guidance and training to production team members on production integrated TPM tasks.
Perform preventative maintenance and inspection activities not covered by production integrated TPMs.
Provide first response to Tooling and equipment failures and breakdowns throughout the facility, making prompt assessments and taking urgent action to maintain production continuity.
Arrange for replacement or repair of damaged or defective Tooling and equipment, liaising with suppliers and production supervisors to minimise downtime.
Manage all Tooling and equipment spares using the Tooling Register.
Record failure and repair information in the Tooling Register to build a database of MTBF and MTTR for all Tooling and equipment.
Support process engineering with in-house design, fabrication, and rapid prototyping of new and replacement tooling.
Responsible for safe use and upkeep of departmental non-production tooling such as 3D printer, laser etcher, fabrication tools and hand tools.
Support process engineering teams with the commissioning and validation of all new Tooling and equipment.
Advise series and NPI process engineering teams on the reliability and maintenance of new Tooling and equipment.
Administer routine calibration activities.
Actively contribute to a Kaizen approach of continuous improvement.
Support OEE reviews to identify and implement targeted improvements to optimise equipment efficiency.
Support initiatives to reduce expenditure on Tooling and maintenance services through facility investment and expansion of competencies within the department.
Support initiatives to introduce predictive maintenance techniques, such as conditional monitoring, alongside routine preventative maintenance, and reactive maintenance.Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualification:

Experience and knowledge of a range of production tooling, equipment, and machinery.
Pro-active and flexible approach to work. Available for out of hours support when required (overtime payments subject to contract terms).
Organised, with an ability to multi-task - Able to assess, prioritise and respond with absolute urgency to serious issues, should they arise.
Desirable technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualification:
Electrical and control systems knowledge highly desirable.
Previous experience of control systems PLCs would be advantageous. A desire for learning how to setup and edit PLC's is a must.
NVQ 3 or higher technical mechanical and/or electrical qualification, ideally with a manufacturing background, coupled with a hands-on, adaptable problem-solving approach
