Traffic Regulation and Licensing Officer

Location: Chelmsford, CM1 1QH

Permanent / Part Time: 32 hours per week

We are working with a market leader in the highways term maintenance industry to recruit a Traffic Regulation and Licensing Officer.

In this role, you will assist in the management of the legal traffic order making process in support of all Permanent, Experimental and some Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders. The post holder will assist in the drafting of consents, licenses, and permissions on behalf of Essex County Council to third parties that wish to place any object on, over or above the public highway.

The Role

  • To assist in the preparation and implementation of Traffic regulation orders and other statutory processes and documents.
  • To be responsible for the drafting in accordance with the legislation of consents, licenses, and permission for the placement of items on over or below the public highway.
  • To ensure that each request is correctly logged, and progress documented and kept up to date.
  • To investigate and reply to enquiries concerning the traffic order/licensing process, including from elected Members, MP’s and the public, in a timely and efficient way.
  • To check that requests and documents are compliant with Essex County Council policies and national legislation.
  • Provide support in the writing of reports dealing with the considerations of objections to Traffic regulation orders.
  • To assist the Senior Traffic and Licensing Officers with delivery of accurate orders and licenses.

About You

  • Have a knowledge and an understanding of the Highway code and Traffic regulation.
  • Experience of working independently and evidence of taking ownership of allocated workload, including delivery of documentation to a set timeframe.
  • Good communication skills including experience of dealing with enquiries or similar.
  • Good written English and experience of writing reports in a set format.
  • Experience of working with others to identify issues and aid resolution.
  • Act as a team player who can contribute to the overall objectives and growth of the team.
  • Value your own learning and development and share knowledge and skills with others.
  • Able to prioritise own workload and deliver services and performance in a high­ pressured working environment.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally to a high standard.
  • Seek ways of improving the service and identify any efficiencies in processes.
