Role responsibilities

As a Train Presentation Chargehand you will be responsible for carrying out all cleaning duties according to Transport for Wales cleaning procedures, as requested by the Train Presentation Manager, Cleaning Team Leader or Operations Team Leader/Shift Manager. Ensuring all duties are carried out safely with the use of supplied PPE adhering to all safety policies and procedures.

The role holder will also be operationally responsible for small team of Fleet Carraige Cleaners during the shift in a particular area of the depot.

• Performing carriage cleaning duties (interiors and exteriors) as part of the team. The work also covers underframe cleaning.
• Reporting (written and verbal) all incidents/accidents promptly and in instances immediately to the right points of contact
• Ensuring the Carriage cleaners use the correct worksheets and ensure they sign for their work, allocated to each team, on a daily basis.
• Deputising for the Train Presentation Team Leader where required and step up into Train Presentation Team Leader for absence cover or as an additional support as required.
• Ensuring all cleaning materials are checked after each shift. The working areas are left clean and tidy at the end of each shift and that material lockers are replenished and closed (locked where necessary).
• Ensuring the work completed is reported to the information clerks on a daily basis for them to input the results/records into the monthly KPI’s and file accordingly
• Providing on-the-job coaching and instructions to the Fleet Carriage Cleaners to ensure health and safety procedures and train cleaning standards are met.
• Perform other duties such as shed cleaning and office cleaning as required.

Who we’re looking for

• Experience as a train cleaner within a train depot environment covering interior and exterior train cleaning (underframe cleaning experience would be an advantage.
• A good understanding of COSSH regulations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good understanding of Health and Safety requirement within a rail environment including manual handling (holding PTS would be desirable)
• Experience of working in a team environment and be a great team player
• Comfortable stepping up to be a team leader and manage a team

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
