About the role:

As a TrainCare Centre Cleaner, you will play a vital role in maintaining a spotlessly clean TrainCare Centre (TCC), to meet the requirements of our colleagues and other stakeholders. At Northern we always strive for excellence; if you would like to be part of team that make this happen, then this role may be for you.

Our trains and TCC’s operate 7 days a week and you’ll be responsible for the upkeep and welcoming environment around the TCC and it could also mean that you’ll provide support to our Train Cleaning teams at the TCC to deliver an exceptional service in the presentation of trains for our customers. You’ll also work alongside an experienced team, who will support you in developing your career and skills.

Key responsibilities:

This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:
  • General maintenance and groundwork around the depot, to keep it a clean, presentable environment for everyone
  • Keeping walkways clear and cutting grass or trees back, where necessary
  • Provide support to our Train Cleaning teams on depot, with external cleaning of trains, to deliver exceptional service for our customers
  • High pressure lancing of train components
  • Sometimes, you could be assisting with the fueling/tanking/CET duties on arriving trains
  • Sometimes, you could be assisting skilled Tradesmen with maintenance tasks on trains
About you:

We are looking for reliable and proactive individuals to fulfil this role. You must be be willing to work outside throughout the year. You’ll also be flexible enough to deal with ever-changing requirements and be proactive where possible.

  • Working in a team to get a job completed together and the confidence to build relationships with a wide variety of people and teams
  • Following instructions and attention to detail to successfully maintain high standards
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Have excellent initiative and the ability think on your feet in sometimes difficult situations
  • We like you to have pride in your work and always strive to be the best you can.
