Responsibilities

Description of the Business Line or Department

The Communication team at Societe Generale UK ensures:

  • The definition of the communication strategy in the UK, in line with Group Communication.
  • The promotion of Societe Generale’s brand, culture, values, and identity in the UK.
  • The support of its activities, principally in Financing & Advisory, Global Market and Investment Services, Private Banking and Cash Equities

The Communication team is organised around three interlinked pillars:

  • Press & Editorial
  • Corporate Engagement
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Brand, Sponsorship, Internal Communications, and Events are part of the Corporate Engagement pillar. The Press & Editorial pillar includes Media Relations, Editorial and Social Media. CSR focuses on Community impact, including through staff support.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

The internship offered in the Societe Generale UK communication teams allows an 11-month experience (with scope to broaden to 22 months) dedicated to contributing to the promotion of Societe Generale to its stakeholders, both internal and external, with specific missions:

  • As part of the Corporate Engagement team, to support internal and external communication activities.
  • Support for the Media Relations team, across all press and editorial activities

Summary of responsibilities

Within the Media Relations team, the main responsibilities will be:

  • Assist in organisation of media events (press parties, roundtables, press briefings)
  • Support distribution of research to media including compiling information, obtaining approval and distribution, under supervision of Media Team
  • Proof reading/editing of communications materials (press releases, Q&A, press statements, talking points, success stories etc) produced by the wider team, under the supervision of head of team.
  • General administration such as updating relevant databases and media lists
  • Supporting selected awards submissions

Within the Corporate Engagement team, the main responsibilities will be:

  • Supporting the communication needs of the corporate and support functions such as HR, Compliance, Facilities etc and working with external suppliers such as creative agencies and our charity partners to deliver staff engagement campaigns, events, and messaging.
  • Help to organise and deliver internal events – from working with stakeholders to defining a calendar of events, to sending invitations and hosting online events.
  • Across both teams, assist with the production and publication of editorial content on the intranet, website, weekly newsletters and through our social media accounts.
  • This will include adding to branded templates and publishing using our internal software platforms. You will also be responsible for ensuring the timely distribution of internal emails to all UK staff using the in-house software.

Ensure reporting of activities including attendance to events, newsletters readership and social media coverage.

Branding & advertising - provide support by ensuring our brand guidelines are maintained across everything we do and support on any brand promotion activations.

Profile required

Competencies

You will have a strong interest in developing your career in communications with the Financial Services sector. You want to develop your experience by working in a small team and in a role which offers you the chance to develop your skills further by working across a number of different areas within Corporate Communications.

Technical skills

  • The ideal candidate will hold a degree or equivalent in Marketing / Communications, Literature or Business Studies
  • 1-2 years’ relevant work experience is advantageous
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of Communication principles
  • Use of digital media is essential; knowledge of CMS is advantageous
  • Excellent level of communication in both written and spoken English
