Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to train to become a Nurse Colposcopist and join the Gynaecology outpatients team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, compassionate nurse with excellent communication skills and a keen interest in women’s health,
The successful applicant will work as part of the Trust wide multidisciplinary team, however must be able to work on own initiative, have good time management skills and leadership skills.
To undertake relevant training to facilitate independent practice and become an accredited Nurse Colposcopist with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
Participate in clinic sessions within the Gynaecological Outpatient Department.
Following training and accreditation with the BSCCP undertake Colposcopy clinics and be able to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and prioritise patient care without supervision in line with National Health Service Cervical Screening Programme. NHSCSP and BSCCP guidance.
To improve standards of care and promote a seamless service within the multidisciplinary professional framework. This will be achieved through clinical practice, Colposcopy management, education, research and audit professional activities, considering directorate and corporate objectives and within clinical governance framework.
Under the supervision of the trained Colposcopist, manage a patient caseload, providing expert assessment, evaluation and treatment within Colposcopy care.
Contribute towards and liaise with the multi-professional cancer team in the management of patient caseload, referring on as required.
Under the supervision of the trained Colposcopist providing support for the Colposcopy clinics in accordance with guidelines and protocols as per NHSCSP and Trust clinical governance framework to become an as independent practitioner.
Technical knowledge and skill of vaginal and bi-manual examination and associated investigations- colposcopy cervical screening samples, swabs, vaginal packing.
Technical knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, function, capabilities. How to recognise faults, maintain and request repair of equipment, operate equipment with the highest standard of dexterity hand, eye co-ordination.
With support, and in collaboration with the Colposcopy clinicians, act as an advocate to the patient when relevant and informed during discussions about treatment and management options.
Liaise and communicate GP and patient results and ensure that clinical care is given effectively and in a timely manner in accordance with NHSCSP and SQAS standards.
