Job description

The Department of Physics seeks to appoint an enthusiastic Trainee Research Technician with a keen interest in science and technology. We are looking for someone who has a natural ability to look at a problem logically, and consider all possibilities, before finding the best way forward. This is an exciting opportunity to provide technical support to the teaching and research areas in the Department of Physics. The post offers secondments to the undergraduate teaching laboratories, research groups and workshops within Physics, enabling you to acquire a very wide range of skills under the supervision of senior technicians. This is a trainee post and previous technical experience is not required. We do not expect you to have experience of a research or laboratory environment, but you must be able to demonstrate practical skills from your interests, hobbies or previous work. As your training progresses, you will provide technical support to one of our world class research groups or to our teaching laboratories where you will be responsible for the maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus and play a key role in the delivery of technical support to the users. Once trained you will work as part of a team and be able to communicate technical and non-technical matters clearly and effectively to a wide range of people (colleagues, supervisors and academic staff) and also be able to work without supervision. You will have A-levels or equivalent qualifications and be willing to continue to learn. You will also be encouraged and supported with additional training – possibly on day release to a local college. This position is available immediately, but we would consider delaying the start until Summer 2024 for applicants still completing A-levels. We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so. Full details of the duties and selection criteria for this role can be found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick's jobs pages. You will be routed to this when you click on the Apply button.
