About the job

Job summary

Do you enjoy juggling a varied workload?

Do you pride yourself on delivering fantastic customer service using your excellent communication skills?

Would you like to work for an organisation making a difference to everyone?

If the answer is yes – we have an exciting opportunity for you as a Transactions and Helpline Officer in the Corporate Support Unit (CSU) at the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people. We play a critical role in protecting public health and consumers’ wider interests in food across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our vision is an important one - to drive change, delivering “food we can trust” and working towards a healthier and more sustainable food system.

The FSA’s remit is huge, and for a relatively small department, we deal with an extremely wide variety of important areas relating to food and feed within the UK. From the safety of food produced in the UK to the impact of new and developing technologies, by way of pet food, wine production, and almost anything else the food industry touches - the FSA has a presence.

This extensive body of work and responsibilities is carried out smoothly in no small part thanks to the work of CSU, which offers important functional support to every corner of the FSA. Transactions Officers play an important part in this team, supporting the business by dealing with incoming correspondence, booking travel and accommodation and providing secretariat services.

Job description

A Transactions and Helpline Officer’s work is varied and will offer you the opportunity to understand and interact with large swathes of the wider FSA, giving valuable insight into the organisation’s inner workings. From providing secretariat support to a number of high-profile committees to offering support to the Operations teams and supporting the Transactions Lead in their efforts to drive workflow and offer continuous improvement within the team.

You will need to be an organised and dedicated individual who is capable of working diligently and at pace to ensure the smooth running of our operations, prioritising and making effective decisions accordingly in order to support the wider team. This is a fascinating role that will offer insight into the inner workings of the FSA and offer opportunities to further develop your career. Apply today to become a part of this vital team.
