This role has a starting salary of £44,614 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.

This role is initially for one year, with the potential for extension into the future following successful implementation of the project.

Surrey County Council is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to lead an innovative collaboration with the National House Project to establish a Local House Project in the county, who is committed to enabling the best outcomes for children who are looked after or care leavers

About the Team

The Local House Project is an important new initiative for Surrey County Council that is focused on enabling older looked after children and care leavers to progress to independence.

This exciting co-produced project will support and enable care experienced children and young people to work together to develop relationships, learn skills, create their own homes and live connected, fulfilling and successful lives.

About the Role

In this role you will be a team member in the Looked After Children and Care Leavers' service, working under the supervision of the Team Manager to take a lead on the running of the Local House Project which will support approximately up to 12 children in care and care leavers at any one time.

You will work within Surrey County Council to ensure that your colleagues across the team and the service are aware of the House Project and you will build relationships with the staff and young people that will enable you to gain further insight into the work the project does.

You will be provided with appropriate training to enable you to be successful in the role and the range of tasks you undertake will be in response to both your skills and experience and the needs of our young people.

Following their graduation from the House Project, you will also plan and provide ongoing support for our young people as they strive towards independence.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Your ability to understand child development, the impact of trauma and experience of working with vulnerable young people.
  • A minimum of two years' experience of working with care experienced young people.
  • Experience of providing effective support to young people and staff by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress, ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly
  • Degree level qualification with experience of working with care experienced young people.
  • Working knowledge of the accommodation needs and housing for young people.
  • Understanding of the education, training and work experience needs of young people, and the opportunities open to them.
