Why this job matters

As a valued member of the Network Planning team you’ll be empowered to deliver capacity plans for the Transmission Platform. This responsibility includes creating and planning appropriate network solutions and proactively identifying and implementing process or automation improvements. This is an exciting role that will give you the opportunity to work with teams across BT and with our vendors/partners.

This role can be based in BT's Birmingham Office

What you’ll be doing

  • Creating and planning Network Solutions, utilising appropriate Planning Rules
  • Provides sound technical expertise to deliver timely response to queries, identifying and mitigating operational risks as appropriate.
  • Full contribution to development of guidelines and policies to manage network planning.
  • Provides support and advice to deliver operational activities, using sound technical capabilities to deliver relevant plans while ensuring adherence to standards. 
  • Delivers high-impact operational activities, monitoring performance and ensuring feedback is inputted to the management process. 
  • Develops effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to explore opportunities for partnership, acting as the point of escalation for issue resolution.
  • Uses technical expertise to propose planning processes, including the development and proof of concept, engagement of front door and process validation.
  • Seeks continuous improvement and efficiency opportunities in order to automate, centralise, standardise and simplify processes, owning the delivery of improvement projects and initiatives.

Skills You Need for the Job

  • The key purpose of this role is to be the technical interface into the Transmission Platform.
  • Job holders must be able to understand Transmission platform/product architecture and service flow, as well as how our customers consume these products.
  • Utilising multiple planning tools and techniques the role holder needs to create capacity plans, provide provision activity across the Transmission Platform and pro-actively identify service improvements, deliver problem management improvements and ultimately improve customer experience with improved MTTP.
  • Role holder needs to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Job holder will also be responsible for process automation and maintaining robots.
  • Data driven decision making and communication: drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate and communicating this to business audiences
  • Product Knowledge: understand the products and services that BT provide and how our customers utilise them. Tenacious Problem Solver: a desire to look across platforms and teams to ensure problems are resolved and prevent reoccurrence. 
  • Technical Skills: Good knowledge and understanding of Ciena/Huawei/Nokia. Highly experienced in call tracing and fault diagnostics. Good knowledge of BT Transmission Platform, service journeys and operating models/process
     

Experience You'd be Expected to Have

MANDATORY

  • Experience of Ethernet Services
  • Experience of IP & Data network planning or delivery
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership potential
  • Solve complex problems at scale
  • Agile approach to solving problems
  • Effective Communication within and outside the organisation
  • Adaptability in various work scenarios

PREFERRED

  • Experience of BT’s Ethernet Services including Harmonised Ethernet and Wholesale Mobile Connect
  • BT’s 21st Century Network, Converged Core /Transmission and IP Platforms
  • Orchestration and Automation
  • Agile and Waterfall development methods using JIRA, Kanban, others
