Transport Shift Leader

As a Transport Shift Leader, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Transport Manager in daily operations. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the dispatching, routing, and tracking of transportation vehicles to ensure a safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective service for the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles
- Supervise the team, including office staff and 20+ drivers, on a daily basis
- Plan, organise, and manage the work of the team to ensure organisational requirements are met
- Act as the main point of contact for transport queries from the drivers and sub-contracted hauliers
- Ensure transport compliance in line with regulations, including handling HR-related queries, payroll, and disciplinary matters
- Serve as a primary point of contact for the customer service team and the transport operation
- Conduct investigations to verify and resolve internal complaints
- Collaborate with team members to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
- Promote safe work activities by conducting regular safety audits
- Direct activities of staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
- Identify and liaise with the Transport Manager to optimise fleet efficiency
- Coach, train, and develop the transport team to continuously improve their performance, professionalism, and competence
- Stay up-to-date with transport legislation to ensure legal compliance within the department
- Be able to commit to a Monday to Friday (and alternate Saturdays) 04:00-12:00 or 14:00-22:00 shift
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- National/International CPC Holder
- Proven experience in transport/logistics within a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing a team
- Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety regulations within a transport environment
- Self-motivated with the ability to make decisions on your own initiative
- Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
