Transport Supervisor at Uniserve

Uniserve, a leader in logistics and supply chain solutions, is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the position of Transport Supervisor. This role plays a pivotal part in overseeing the safety, efficiency, and compliance of transport operations.

As part of this role you will be required to provide holiday cover, which could be any out 5 out of 7 nights and includes nights and weekend cover.

When holiday cover is not required the role will be day shift Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitoring Driver Performance: Ensure drivers adhere to safe driving practices, comply with relevant laws, and manage fatigue risks to minimise the likelihood of accidents or injuries.
• Supervising Loading and Offloading: Oversee the proper loading and offloading of goods to enhance transit efficiency, ensuring items reach their destination undamaged and without loss.
• Liaising with Government Departments: Coordinate with government agencies on matters related to transport operations, such as customs or police involvement in cross-border transportation or security incidents.
• Ensuring Compliance with Laws and Regulations: Implement and enforce safety protocols to minimise legal liabilities during transit operations, ensuring staff, equipment, and vehicles comply with regulations.
• Managing Staff: Effectively manage and motivate a team of drivers and warehouse personnel, allocating resources efficiently to meet deadlines and remain within budget.
• Inspecting Vehicles: Conduct regular inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, well-maintained, and comply with all relevant regulations, protecting personnel, cargo, and the public.
• Generating Reports: Create detailed reports documenting transportation activities, providing valuable insights for analysis by stakeholders.
• Reviewing Policies and Procedures: Regularly review and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and customer requirements.

Essential skills and requirements:

• IT Proficiency: Utilise databases, spreadsheets, and scheduling tools for efficient transport management.
• Knowledge of Transport Regulations: Thorough understanding of legal, local, and industry-specific regulations governing transportation.
• Logistics Expertise: Proficient in planning and coordinating shipments and personnel for efficient operations.
• Maths Skills: Ability to calculate distances, fuel costs, and quantities, with numeracy skills for budgeting.
• Mechanical Knowledge: Understanding of mechanical systems to identify and anticipate potential vehicle problems.
• Excellent Communication: Clear and effective communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: Quick identification and resolution of transportation-related challenges.
• Analytical Skills: Utilise data for informed decision-making in managing transportation operations.
• Leadership and Management: Motivate and manage teams efficiently to support successful operations.
• Decision-Making: Make confident decisions in various situations, weighing pros and cons.
• Organisational Skills: Efficiently plan routes, coordinate shipments, and schedule personnel to meet deadlines.
