Treatment Apprenticeship

Transforming Water, Shaping Tomorrow: Dive into a new challenge and earn while you learn.

Water Recycling is at the heart of our operations. We collect and treat the water that customers have used, before safely returning it to the environment via rivers and coastal outlets. If you're passionate about the environment and making a difference, our apprentices are opportunities for all and encourage you to apply now to become a Treatment Apprentice.

Here at Anglian Water, we are recruiting for potential and are looking for enthusiastic talent who are keen to learn a new process, and ready for a new adventure –  whether you’re looking to kick start your career, seeking a new challenge or considering a career change, we have opportunities for all!  In this 24-month apprenticeship, you'll undergo a comprehensive training program, blending classroom study and on-the-job training, with the ultimate goal of becoming a fully qualified Water Treatment Technician.

What’s in it for you?

  • A nationally recognised qualification - Level 3 Water Treatment Technician
  • A full-time job at the end of your apprenticeship (subject to performance and behavioural reviews)
  • 23 days annual leave – rising with length of service (plus the choice to buy & sell leave)
  • Company pension scheme - Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 12% employer contribution
  • Personal private health care from day one
  • Fully expensed accommodation close to the training centre
  • Fully expensed tools, uniform, and PPE tailored to your personal needs
  • Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle, and an extensive range of retail discounts

Your journey: You will embark on an adventure of both classroom education and hands-on experience – all whilst getting paid for it! You’ll receive training and learning about the development, installation and maintenance of water treatment programmes for water systems; working towards a nationally recognised Level 3 Water Treatment Technician apprenticeship. Your journey will be guided by experienced Technicians, to ensure you acquire the practical skills needed for success.

Your role as a Treatment Apprentice: As a Treatment Apprentice, you’ll work at our Wastewater sites, maintaining our sewerage systems and pumping stations. Day to day, you’ll get stuck into activities including monitoring and maintaining wastewater treatment processes including screening, grit removal, settlement, biological treatment and sludge treatment.

You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside our scientists involved in the wastewater treatment process and build the skills and knowledge to deal with faults that may occur within our water recycling works, making sure problems are resolved as quickly as possible. Upon being fully qualified, this role operates on a 24/7 standby basis, highlighting the vital nature of your contribution.

To be successful as an Anglian Water Apprentice you will require:

  • 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English Grade A-C or 9-4 (if you have not completed your GCSE’s we will accept predicted grades. We also accept Level 2 Functional Skills)
  • Enthusiasm to learn and a passion to work in a practical environment
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weathers
  • A passion for problem solving, the great outdoors, and an interest in Science is a bonus too!

As well as the above, you will need a full UK driving licence. If you do not currently have this, you are required to hold a full UK driving licence prior to the completion of year 2 of the training programme. You will also need to live within the circumference of the area that the role will cover.

Closing date: Sunday 11th February 2024

Application Timeline: Once we receive your CV and application, we will assess your eligibility for the role. If you meet the requirements, you will be asked to complete five screening questions to find out more about you and your motivations for applying, and an online behavioural assessment for us to learn more about your values and behaviours. If successful, you will be invited to attend an in-person assessment centre in Chelmsford on Tuesday 12th March 2024.
