Job description

Will you join Age UK Mid Mersey as their new Treasurer and lead the way in empowering over 50s across the region?

Fuelled by a vision to promote improved quality of life and empowerment for people aged 50+ and their carers, you’ll take the strategic lead on finance at Board level for a highly-respected charity making a profound impact on the lives of people and communities across Halton, St Helens, Knowsley and Warrington.

Location: Quarterly board meetings will be held in person at either the Mansion House, St Helens or Church Street, Runcorn. Other meetings held virtually.
Time commitment: Estimated at 1 day per month, *see below.
Renumeration: This is a voluntary Trustee position.

About the charity

It’s a genuinely exciting and pivotal time to be joining Age UK Mid Mersey, to build on and develop the high-quality information, advice and support they provide. The charity is financially stable with healthy reserves and has recently appointed a new CEO – the perfect opportunity to come onboard and be part of a key milestone in the charity’s history.

Age UK Mid Mersey has a laser-sharp, single focus: to improve quality of life and empower people aged 50 and over. Their ambition is to develop more services, reach out to new client groups and diversify income. To achieve these goals and remain relevant and effective, they’ll need to adapt and evolve under the leadership of a refreshed and visionary board of trustees.

About the role

To achieve the charity’s mission and strategic priorities, we’ll need a diversely skilled and experienced team of Trustees, who are truly passionate about the rights of all to a healthy later life. As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer is responsible for strategically advising the Board on financial decision-making and maintaining an overview of financial affairs.

You’ll ensure that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. You’ll also Chair the finance sub-committee.

About you

You’re a finance professional operating at leadership level, ideally with knowledge of charity finance. Otherwise, an enthusiasm to learn with the ability to draw from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.

We’ll be looking for you to demonstrate the following:

  • Strategic thinker: You’re able to balance risk and opportunity.
  • Clear communicator: You bring financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
  • Dedicated: You’re willing to play an active role in forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors.
  • Listen and engage effectively: You’re comfortable with challenge and debate and able to encourage the same in others, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • ED&I: You demonstrate a strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Responsive: as a small charity, things sometimes ‘come up’ that require a Treasurer to advise, support or give consent.

*Time Commitment continued:

  • Quarterly board meetings.
  • Chair the quarterly Board Finance sub-committee and regular meetings with the CEO / Director of Operations.
  • Flexibility to respond swiftly to occasional ad hoc issues.
  • Attend board development, training and annual strategy day.

If you have the skills and experience to lead with passion, integrity and from a place of inclusion, then we’d love to hear from you and together improve the lives of over 50s across Mid-Mersey.

To apply, please send a copy of your profile or CV in the first instance to Amelia Lee at Charity People to receive a copy of the job pack and application process.

Deadline: Friday 16th February
Interview: Thursday 7th March (online), with option for flexibility to suit busy diaries
