The Role

The successful applicant will have experience of teaching or employment in the field of Food and Food Blog Photography. You will be able to deliver modules in subject areas offered linked to photography. You will understand the needs of adult learners, the need for adults to continue their learning and the concept of continuous professional development. The successful applicant will undertake online teaching, promotion of courses, assessment and administration. Classes will be delivered using Blackboard – our online virtual learning environment.

What you’ll do

This job description is subject to review and amendment in the light of the changing needs of the University, to provide appropriate development opportunities and/or the addition of any other reasonable duties.

  • To deliver effective teaching and assessment units for Higher Education courses at NQFW4.
  • To maximise recruitment to LLL courses by publicising and promoting his/her own module(s) and by participating in general marketing activities and events through social media.
  • To devise and implement an appropriate student learning experience in line with LLL and University quality assurance guidelines.
  • To prepare the learning environment in advance of teaching (subject specific).
  • To provide appropriate pastoral support for students.
  • To complete risk assessment documentation (when appropriate).
  • To contact the relevant coordinators in relation to class enrolments.
  • To undertake administrative work associated with classes, including completing class register, module content, enrolment, feedback and evaluation forms etc. in accordance with LLL requirements and within stated timescales.
  • To undertake all existing and new Quality Assurance processes associated with the modules and study schemes e.g. preparing assessment tasks, marking, giving written & verbal feedback and submitting all of the above for moderation within the given timescales.
  • To be involved in curriculum development and have experience of distance and / or blended learning.
  • To attend induction and staff training events for tutors.
  • To undertake in-house training.
  • To attend staff meetings and professional development sessions
  • To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Who you are – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required

Essential

  • Have recent professional experience of Food Photography
  • A first degree in the subject area
  • Recent teaching experience
  • An understanding of the role relating to:- marketing, student support requirements, engagement, motivation and learning strategies
  • Knowledge and experience of assessment of post 16 education and strategies that are inclusive of neuro diverse learners
  • High level of written communication and skills in online learning packages, Panopto, Microsoft and Blackboard
  • Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level A0.*

An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and an awareness of the procedures in place to support working bilingually.

Desirable

  • MA in subject area
  • Training or leadership skills
  • Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level C1.*

Salary Information

Lifelong Learning tutors are paid at point 30 of salary scale 6 (£18.07 per hour plus a multiplier for assessment).

This is an hourly-paid post. Payment is determined by the number of teaching contact hours plus an additional allowance for associated responsibilities such as preparation, administration and assessment. This means that total payment for a 10-credit course (which involves 20 teaching contact hours) is currently between £420.88 (bottom spinal point of Grade 6) and £502.20 (top spinal point of Grade 6).

Payment will be paid monthly in arrears according to the submission of signed copies of class registers. Travel expenses will be paid in accordance with the University’s Policy.

The number of courses will vary from year to year. There may be as few as one per year or up to four classes (sometimes more), depending on the scheduled programme for that year and on student enrolment numbers.

The minimum number of hours of work per academic year will be 20 hours for one 10-credit class. All classes will be subject to a viable number of enrolments. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to cancel courses with insufficient student numbers. In the event of a class being cancelled for this reason a cancellation fee based on the actual hours taught and associated preparatory work up to the date of the notification of the cancellation will be paid. Payment will also include any annual leave accrued up to the same date. Payment will be made provided that an up-to-date class register has been submitted in accordance with the instruction on the information sheet circulated to tutors at the start of each academic year.
