About the role

The UCAS Board is seeking to appoint 2 external co-opted members to its Finance and Audit Committee.

The Committee’s responsibilities and duties relate to financial reporting, budgeting and financial performance, financial strategy, planning and policy, and investments, risk management, internal controls, internal audit, and external audit.

It is looking for an outstanding individuals to serve on the Finance and Audit Committee and make a significant contribution to the organisation and its customers.

TERM AND COMMITMENT

Co-opted members are appointed for a fixed term of up to four years, and this can be renewed for a further period of between one and four years as determined by the UCAS Board.

The appointment is without remuneration, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

The Finance Committee is required to meet regularly to discharge its duties and currently meets with a mix of virtual and in person meetings (primarily in Cheltenham or London) at least three times a year.

Skills, qualifications, and experience

The UCAS Board is looking for a co-opted member with an understanding of the non-executive role and the time to contribute their professional, specialist and general management skills to UCAS’ Committee's with some or all of the following:

Essential

A qualified accountant, with experience of operating at Board or Committee level in a large and complex private or public sector organisation.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of influencing at the highest levels, fostering productive relationships across complex and wide-ranging stakeholder groups.

Strong evidence of strategic planning and decision-making, commercial acumen, and understanding of risk and performance management.

Experience of developing robust financial balance sheets for the long-term, including reserves, and pricing.

A breadth of vision, and a demonstrable understanding of the principles of good governance.

Awareness of the modern regulatory environment, and ability/agility to respond to potential upcoming technological requirements, opportunities and challenges, for example AI.

Desirable

Broad professional financial experience, including business planning, budgeting, financial management reporting and investment strategy.

Awareness of the current challenges facing higher education, both in the UK and overseas.
