Unix Systems Engineer

About the opportunity
We are delighted to be supporting a leading public sector organisation in the search for a UNIX Engineer for a 12 to 18 month contract. This role is for a Operating Systems (UNIX) Engineer (wholly AIX) to support a critical system within the organisation. They are moving from being self-hosted to a remote-hosted model but require additional support for the next year at least until that is completed.

The organisation may have other opportunities to move into once the fixed term placement is over. Our client have done a lot of work to standardise the technologies that they use. The Linux installations are predominately Redhat and they only buy commercial off the shelf software. They are a Microsoft user (O365 etc). 
The Important Information 
Start date: ASAP ideally before the end of February at the latest 
Salary is flexible, c. £40,000-50,000 but negotiable based on the technical skills and experience you bring. 
Location is in Newcastle, hybrid 3-4 days from home or fully remote options will be considered 
Working Hours can be flexible within reason to suit circumstances (starts and finishes early / late) 
Required experience

• Have experience of the installation of new hardware including 1par creation and provisioning of resources such as CPU, memory, NICs and HBAs. 
• Have experience of UNIX / AIX administration.
• Specifically the ability to provide backup and recovery 
• Allocation of storage -  there are people who can create volumes but this individual will need to have experience of attracting or growing the storage 

Desirable 

• Linux experience would be advantageous but there are people within the team with skills and experience to complement 
• Experience with IBM Hardware Management Console (HMC), tape robots and back-up software such as spectrum protect/TCM
