Utility Surveyor Project Brief - GPR Surveys

Location:

Company is based in Hassocks, West Sussex

Hybrid/Remote Work

Salary:

£25,000 - £33,000 (Depending on experience) plus a fully expensed van for work use.

The Company

Hunter Mason’s client is a geotechnical and environmental consultancy offering a comprehensive range of services to housing developers, public sector development, commercial construction, road, and utilities sectors. These vary from desk studies through to on-site intrusive investigations, which are used to provide ground models for contaminated land assessments, foundation, pavement, road, and drainage designs. In addition they undertake slope stability analysis and design, basement impact assessments, contamination remediation strategies and validation reports together with earthworks specifications and material management plans. Current projected turnover for the 2023/24 financial year is anticipated to be in excess of £3.2M.

Role Description

Our client is now looking for a Utility Surveyor who has a track record in Utility and GPR surveys to help with our expanding workload within the housing, road, utilities, and construction industries. The successful candidate will also receive training in ground gas/ground water monitoring to support the company in their ongoing site monitoring programme.

The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on high-level of service with a professional approach, determination, and ambition.

This is for work nationally, but most of the work will be in the south and southeast of England. The role of the surveyor will be threefold:

  1. Primarily travelling around our sites undertaking detection and mapping underground utilities with CAT and GPR techniques in accordance with PAS128, as well as groundwater and ground gas monitoring using a dip meter and a gas monitor - training will be provided.
  2. Surveying in of locations using our in-house equipment and software.
  3. Providing support to our consultants either on-site doing tasks such as writing of RAMS, assisting engineers on-site with fieldwork, or with sorting of soil samples at the office.

Our client operates predominantly within the south of the UK but work may be expected UK wide from time to time. The role will be working both cross company and cross team.

They are looking for someone specifically based in the Hampshire, West Surrey, East Berkshire, or Essex area. They would report directly to the Director responsible for the East of England who is based in our Hatfield Peverel office. It is expected that the surveyor will visit the Hatfield Peverel office, or our head office in Hurstpierpoint when required, however, the Company offers hybrid flexible working, and it is anticipated that the surveyor will be either working on-site or working from home to reduce any unnecessary mileage and improve work/life balance.

Competencies

The competencies of a Utility/Land Surveyor are:

  • 1 Years’ experience minimum of undertaking buried services scans with a GPR and CAT and GENNY
  • Capable of data processing, interpretation and presentation of survey results using in-house software
  • Experience in the use of CAD software techniques
  • Team working skills, in order to contribute within a team to the execution of a wide range of activities.
  • Used to physically active work (the role will largely be outdoors on site).
  • Ability to take instructions and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to plan workload efficiently and effectively.
  • Understanding the importance of meeting customer needs.
  • Clean driving license.
  • Experience of driving commercial vehicles preferred.
  • CSCS card

It would be desirable if the individual had any of the following:

  • PTS
  • EURS
  • NRSW
  • DBS
