Type: Part time - 20 hours a week (3 out of 7)

Working Hours: 7am-2pm OR 8am-3pm

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: 12 p/h

Job Overview: We are seeking a responsible and dependable Van Shunter/Driver to join our transportation team. The Van Shunter/Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting goods between company depots, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to all traffic and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have excellent driving skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Responsibilities:

1. Safely operate company vans to transport goods between designated depots, following established routes and schedules.
2. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the van to ensure it is in good working condition and report any mechanical issues or damage to the appropriate personnel.
3. Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations while driving, including speed limits, hours of service, and vehicle maintenance requirements.

Requirements:

1. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
2. Proven experience driving vans or similar vehicles in a commercial or industrial setting.
3. Ability to safely operate vehicles in various weather conditions and environments.
4. Strong understanding of traffic laws, safety regulations, and vehicle maintenance procedures.
5. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
6. Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate documentation and timely deliveries.
7. Physical fitness and stamina to perform loading and unloading activities and work outdoors as needed.
8. Flexibility to work varying shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
9. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
2. Prior experience driving vans or trucks for inter-depot transportation or delivery services.
3. Knowledge of GPS navigation systems and route planning software.
4. Familiarity with warehouse operations and logistics processes.
5. Certification in first aid and CPR.

Working Conditions:

• This position primarily involves driving company vans between depots, with occasional loading and unloading activities.
• Physical demands include sitting for extended periods, bending, lifting heavy objects, and operating hand and foot controls.
• Flexible schedule required, including availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, and other hazards associated with operating vehicles and working in industrial environments.
