Vehicle Technician (Weekdays)

Salary: up to £32,000
The Role
Clarkson Evans is the largest electrical contractor in the new build housing sector, wiring over 24,000 homes and exceeding turnover of £60m in a typical year. Headquartered in Gloucester and established for over 40 years, we work for all the leading housebuilders, operating nationwide. Last year we acquired a solar PV business and solar installations are now a rapidly growing part of our business.
With over 500 vehicles in use across the company, having proper service, maintenance and repair in place is essential and you’ll play a key role in helping us achieve this. You’ll be joining a small, friendly and supportive team where the emphasis is on completing each task to a high standard and the quality of your work will be recognised and rewarded in an environment without sales, targets or strict time pressures. On a day-to-day basis your work will include the servicing and repair of our fleet of VW vans, fitting everything from wheels to gearboxes at our own vehicle workshop at Staverton. You’ll also assist with servicing vehicles around the country, using our dedicated Fleet Support vehicle.
Working hours will be based on 39 hours a week (Monday to Friday), starting no later than 8am and finishing early on Fridays.
Responsibilities
- To undertake the general vehicle diagnostics, logging details of results where appropriate
- To conduct the servicing of the company vehicles and completion of all associated paperwork
- Advise the Workshop Supervisor in relation of any specialist part requirements
- To conduct general repairs on the company vehicles in alignment with good practice and suppliers’ recommendations
- Travelling to assist with breakdowns in our dedicated Fleet Support Vehicle
- Abide by all workshop rules and Health and Safety legislation
- Escalate issues to the workshop supervisor as and when required. Including seeking advice on potential solutions
- To carry out additional tasks to support the business as required
- In some cases there will be a requirement to visit other business locations when needed
Required Skills and Attributes
- Proven mechanic, through experience or qualification, having worked on a wide range of commercial and domestic vehicles
- Good organisational skills, including the ability to time manage and prioritise effectively
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good decision-making skills in relation to the technical requirements of vehicle servicing and repair
- Good logic and problem-solving abilities in a vehicle and workshop context
- Full driving licence required
- Flexible approach to working
- Ability to convey technical issues both on technical and layman’s basis
- Ability to work as part of a team ‘close knit’ team
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work using own initiative
- Ability to work well under pressure
Required Experience
- Technical knowledge of motor vehicles
- Experience of working within a vehicle workshop
- NVQ Level 3 OR experience in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs
- Windscreen Repair Certificate (desirable)
