What we re looking for

As a Verification and Validation Capability Engineer at RR SMR, you'll be integral to our Systems Engineering approach, ensuring our power station designs meet requirements and stakeholder needs. Your role involves developing and maintaining processes and tools for Verification and Validation, aligning with our strategy of offering delivery-certain solutions through modern engineering tools such as analysis and rig tests.

This position supports the delivery of world-leading Verification and Validation capabilities, leveraging digital approaches and will also require strategic Verification strategy development at a cross-cutting level. Part of this involves ensuring the quality and consistency of our strategy content, including database architecture and using tools like Microsoft Azure solutions such as Power Automate and PowerApps.

Key selection criteria for this role are:

Systems Engineering Experience:

Experience in Systems Engineering for complex products, preferably in safety-critical and regulated industries. Nuclear industry experience is desirable but not essential.

Skills in strategy/planning, requirements management, and/or Verification and Validation.

  • Process and Tool development:
  • Experience in delivering or managing process improvements that affect a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience using requirements management databases (such as IBM DOORS), or other cloud-based repositories.
  • Experience developing new processes in a digital environment. Experience coding or using Microsoft Azure low code solutions (PowerApps, Power Automate etc.) is desirable.

Proactive Approach to Continuous Improvement:

Ability to challenge conventional thinking and seek best practices globally.

Self-starting attitude and readiness to revisit first principles when necessary.

  • Interpersonal skills:

Strong communication skills to facilitate multi-disciplinary problem-solving.

Ability to articulate the importance of Systems Engineering and garner support for RR SMR's strategic approach.

Work Management:

Effective workload management, balancing priorities and navigating ambiguity.

Ability to engage with and influence other engineering teams to ensure alignment with Systems Engineering requirements.

Qualification

  • Degree-level or equivalent qualifications in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional recognition through an appropriate professional body, or be working towards it.

As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals with a minimum level of experience, training, and qualification. But we ll let you in on a secret: there s no such thing as the perfect candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary between £40,000 to £52,000 plus package.

There is also a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, and an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.
