Job details:

Do you want to make a difference and shape the future of veterinary medicine?

We are looking for ambitious individuals to help us train a new generation of highly skilled veterinary professionals who are passionate about animal welfare.

The new School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire is an international, research-active institution, the first facility of its kind to open in the county. You will be joining a talented team who are leading the way in modern learning today, committed to widening access and participation in veterinary education. The school is developing further research activities and postgraduate teaching opportunities, along with bespoke teaching and research environments. Collaboration with internal and external research networks is encouraged.

Whether you’re based in practice or higher education, your valuable skills will help us transform students into industry-ready graduates. Working in state-of-the-art facilities alongside an international team of experienced veterinarians and animal scientists, you’ll lead on designing and delivering innovative teaching while providing outstanding support to students throughout their journey.

We can offer you a rewarding career where you’ll get the opportunities and support you need to advance your career and expertise. For all Veterinary Lecturer roles, you will be given the learning and mentoring support needed to accelerate your development as an academic.

We offer fantastic benefits, including a competitive salary, an occupational pension scheme and generous relocation package and 35 days annual leave (plus 8 bank holidays and 4 extra discretionary days off at Christmas). Many roles offer opportunities for flexible working.

Whilst this is a full-time position, applications from applicants seeking a part-time role (minimum 0.6FTE) are also welcome.

This is an exciting new opportunity for a veterinary surgeon who is enthusiastic about training the next generation of veterinary surgeons in Clinical Communication and professional skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead on the development of a comprehensive communications curriculum by sharing your knowledge and experience to ensure competence in the primary-care practitioners of the future.

Based at our Preston campus as part of the academic team, you will be responsible for delivering teaching and assessment around all aspects of Clinical Communication and professional skills, including developing simulated and scenario-based education with a particular focus on pragmatic and contextual care.

You will have an enthusiasm for developing high quality, innovative educational experiences, and ideally will also have:

  • A good honours degree in veterinary sciences, or another relevant discipline, and experience of communicating in the veterinary context with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Higher education teaching qualification or professional (e.g., PGCHE, FHEA or equivalent), or a commitment to complete within one year of appointment.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent clinical specialisation.

The school is developing further research activities and postgraduate teaching opportunities, along with bespoke teaching and research environments. Collaboration with internal and external research networks is encouraged.
