Job description

Veterinary Surgeon
1 Year FTC
Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, professional Veterinary Surgeon to join our well-established team at Newtownabbey Vets4Pets. This is a fixed term position for 1 year to cover maternity leave, however these can be extended to 2 years for a new graduate.
This role is due to start in Summer 2024, however if you are looking for sooner please do still speak to us as we would be open to discussion
Situated at the edge of Belfast our bright, spacious, air-conditioned surgery has all the expected kit including in-house bloods, X-ray, ECG/multi-monitor, Ultrasound; and nice less well-known additions like a hyrefractor diathermy unit and heated anaesthetic circuits.
You will join a dedicated, supportive team made up of 2 experienced vets, 3 full time registered veterinary nurses and 3 VCS/receptionists. As a team we believe in supporting each other and creating an enjoyable work environment, but a priority to all our colleagues is creating a good work life balance.
Working with Vets4Pets means a lot of the paperwork is done off site allowing us to concentrate on serving our patients with clinical freedom.
We believe in providing the best possible care for all of our patients and with this in mind we monitor our patient flow to ensure that our books are well balanced offering consistency in care - so we have been keeping our client list semi-closed since early 2021 to control our workload to a sensible level, but importantly, this ensures that we can focus on our colleagues well-being.
We have also maintained a fair local pricing; this allows us to keep bill related stress to a minimum.
We work off a 36-hour week, and make sure every single bit of overtime is returned as time in lieu or extra pay. You will be required to work 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis, but there is no on-call with VetsNow handling our OOH. Salary range £34-60k depending on experience.
We would accommodate an experienced vet from January when Connie is due to head on her travels, but as we are passionate about development we would be happy to start a new graduate from September to allow for a gentle easing in, as well as partaking in the award winner graduate programme.
CPD is encouraged and fully funded offering a true opportunity for you to shape your own veterinary career
Sharing our passion and commitment for high standards, will ensure you thrive within this role. With a confident and capable approach, the team would love someone who could bring new ideas and ambition to the team, as they are always looking for ways to improve and grow. As a Practice we are inclusive, embracing a supportive and non-judgement environment.
If you would like to hear more, please contact helen.mcbeath@vets4pets.com and someone will get back to you within 1 working day

Pets just see people. They aren’t biased and they don’t discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
