Job description
The University of Brighton is a community of passionate students, educators and professionals dedicated to transforming lives and shaping futures. Rooted in the city of Brighton and Hove from our very origins, today we are a diverse and inclusive organisation of over 18,000 students and 2,400 staff that takes pride in our impact on our local community and beyond. Our core values of inclusivity, sustainability, creativity, and partnership, shape everything we do. We have high aspirations and the potential to match them – we jumped 22 places in the 2024 Guardian University Guide and saw a further jump in this year's Complete University Guide. In REF21 more than 88% of our submitted research rated as having ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’ impact beyond academia. We are in the top 50 universities in the UK (United Kingdom) for graduate prospects – 91.4% of our graduates are in work or further study (Complete University Guide 2024). In September, the Office for Students (OfS) announced that the University of Brighton has been awarded an overall rating of Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). We are now looking to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor to succeed Debra Humphris. We are looking for a leader who will be visible and collaborative, both internally and externally, and who can bring creative, innovative and strategic thinking to help shape our next chapter. We are an incredibly diverse community in one of the most inclusive cities in the world, and leadership at Brighton will require bringing our university communities and external stakeholders with us as we look to enhance our impact on our students, our city, and the communities we serve. Candidates for the role will need to bring an outstanding track record of transformational and collegiate leadership, operational and resource management in an organisation of relevant complexity and scale, and a high level of commercial awareness. An understanding of the challenges facing the higher education sector, as well as the ability to be a credible leader and champion of the University’s academic mission will also be key. Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the University of Brighton on this appointment.
