About the role:

The British Museum is looking for a Video Producer to join its in-house Production Team. The Video Producer will be responsible for recording and editing video and audio content for the museums successful YouTube channel, other online platforms (Instagram, Facebook etc.) as well as 'in-gallery' content i.e. video and audio displayed in the galleries and exhibitions of the British Museum. The successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders and be a core part of telling the exciting stories within the museum, as well as the incredible work of the collection and staff.

The kind of content you will be making ranges from unscripted, story-based vlogs about the Collection (e.g. our series Curator's Corner), object filming, observational documentaries (following long processes such as conservation work), to in-gallery video and audio, and short-form online advertising and social video. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing team showcasing the projects, work and staff of the museum and to share the exciting stories of the British Museum.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Record and edit high quality video and audio content for YouTube, Instagram, paid-for online adverts and the British Museum website around our temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection.
  • Produce content to a brief, for release in line with our temporary exhibitions schedule and in gallery content in a timely manner.
  • Produce professional content that engages and is suitable in tone and style for the different platforms it is aimed at, whether for social media non-specialists, British Museum members or a wider more international audience.
  • Develop new content with the Marketing, Exhibitions, Learning and National programmes and Curatorial departments.
  • Be sensitive to the cultural and reputational issues around the museum, its staff and collection.
  • Maintain an efficient archiving system for all digital assets created.
  • Work with colleagues to generate an inclusive and collaborative environment with an emphasis on continual improvement and cost-effective, techniques and approaches.

About you:

  • Experience of creating video content, specifically in regard to camera operating, lighting and editing.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop and shooting with Sony Fx3, Sony FS6 or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with social media and mobile content channels.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to manage and develop good relationships with external clients and customers.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.

Degree or equivalent in Video Production, Film or TV or a subject aligned with part of the Museum's collection, is desirable. You will be required to provide a showreel to support your application. We advise using YouTube or Vimeo, as files cannot be attached to your application. Your showreel can be any length, but must include text specifying what you did in each clip e.g. camera operation, editing, grading, directing etc.
