The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.
The Associated Press seeks a journalist with a history of successful television and online video storytelling to join its team in London. This is a temporary role lasting through the end of 2024.
Responsibilities: This video journalist will report from events and junkets as part of AP's entertainment video newsgathering efforts as well as cover entertainment news output on the desk. In this role, you will produce, write and edit video stories for AP’s broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms. You will work with colleagues across the AP to ensure AP delivers a competitive and comprehensive entertainment report to its broadcast and online video clients across the globe. This includes assisting in the coverage of major events such as Cannes, BAFTA and London Film Festival. You must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.
We’re looking for someone who will:
work with a team of field journalists, producers and editors to deliver entertainment spot news and enterprise coverage that breaks news, has impact and is exclusive to AP.
demonstrate superior technical skills in video production and editing, both in static environments and in the chaos of breaking news.
have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate stories that people will want to share on social media.
display familiarity and skill in posting to social media and other digital platforms.
collaborate with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
pursue innovative and inclusive coverage strategies while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
Preferred Qualifications: The video journalist should have strong working knowledge of entertainment beats including film, TV, music, books, and social media, and proven technical skills in television and online video production, including experience editing non-linear videos, preferably with Adobe Premiere. You should be familiar with entertainment news sites and celebrity personalities to know where to look for breaking stories and developments. Working effectively in a deadline driven, dynamic and competitive newsroom environment, you should understand how video content is consumed across a variety of devices and platforms.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Authorization to work in the UK will be mandatory.
Advanced-level professional competency in non-linear video editing is required.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and teams.
We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.
Application Deadline: March 11, 2024 at 11:59PM EST
AP seeks to build an inclusive organization grounded in respect for differences. We support all aspects of diversity and provide equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, marital status, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or status as a veteran.
