Job description

Warwickshire Virtual School, Post 16 Education Officer
Warwickshire Virtual School is a team that promotes the education of children and young people in local authority care, ensuring statutory duties are effectively discharged. The team works remotely and from an office base in Warwick every week.
All children and young people have a named Virtual School representative. Education Advisers work directly with all settings attended by Warwickshire’s children in care. They offer bespoke support, challenge, and training to professionals such as teachers and social workers, ensure all children have good quality Personal Education Plans, and that education providers understand their backgrounds and facilitate best outcomes.

Education Officers maintain oversight of pre-school and Post 16 provisions, monitor attendance, quality assure Personal Education Plans and signpost professionals to the best advice and support.

As Post 16 Education Officeryou will manage your own workload and priorities. You will work 37 hours a week, typically between 8am and 4:30pm. You will be required to work a total of 41 weeks, including the Warwickshire School term. Start and end dates will be set around the successful candidate, but the contract will be fixed term for two years from the agreed start date.

Your young people will be identified by Virtual School Officers. You will liaise with social workers and educational professionals to ensure termly Personal Education Plans are supportive and appropriate. Weekly discussions with the existing Education Officer will ensure consistency of advice and support. Regular meetings with the Senior Education Adviser will be where you will raise concerns, seek advice and assistance, and escalate for action.

The Virtual School is a hardworking and proactive team with very high standards and expectations. You will always be supported within this role by all team members.

Daily work typically includes:
  • Quality assuring Personal Education Plans
  • Providing advice for social workers and other professionals
  • Monitoring attendance
  • Maintaining accurate lists of education, employment or training provision for each young person
  • Prompting settings to ensure termly reviews take place
  • Supporting social workers with Personal Education Plans for young people not in education, employment or training
  • Seeking advice and support, including escalating concerns in a timely manner, with the Senior Education Adviser
  • Reporting and responding to requests from the Virtual School Head

To be successful in this role you will
  • Build good relationships with professionals such as other Virtual Schools, social workers, SEND professionals, Careers Officers and college staff, advocating for Warwickshire’s Children in Care and Care Leavers
  • Continue to develop knowledge and understanding of trauma informed and best practice, based on what works for Children in Care and what works for providers
  • Maintain and monitor accurate data, such as attendance, attainment and progress data to ensure that Virtual School knowledge and resources are deployed effectively.
