Job Description : Visitor Services Assistant – front of house

Job Purpose
The post involves a range of duties and responsibilities comprised in the efficient running of the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre exhibition, shop and coffee shop
Main responsibilities
To sell tickets to visitors for the Museum and exhibition, sell stock from the Centre shop and serve and sometimes prepare light meals for the coffee shop
Job Activities
Housekeeping duties – ensuring that the premises are in good order. Cleaning and tidying the premises, including parts not generally open to the public; changing lightbulbs; picking up litter outside the premises and collecting and putting out rubbish for collection; checking the security and maintenance of the premises and reporting defects; other odd jobs as requested by management and supervisor.
- Visitor service duties – these duties involve providing a high quality customer service and ensuring that museum / exhibition visitors enjoy their visit. Managing sale of tickets and goods; answering queries and giving information; Assist in monitoring and maintaining stock levels in shop and tearoom; Carry out general maintenance of equipment (coffee machine, fridge, soup urn). Assist in monitoring and maintaining stock levels in shop and tearoom; Maintain information for visitors. Keeping the attendant’s area and information tidy and well organised. All Visitor Services staff must adhere to the Trust’s dress code while on duty.
- Kitchen duties : Assist the chef and Supervisor in serving and occasionally preparing simple meals and serving at tables. Clearing tables and cleaning tables.
- Responsibilities for cash takings reconcile till and bank takings
- Responsibilities for the security of the facilities – All staff are responsible for ensuring the security of the collection, special exhibits and premises; maintaining the security of museum displays ( physical and environmental ) and keeping order; checking fire and intruder alarm systems; responsibility for keys; checking the security of premises, locking up and setting alarm systems; adhering to the Whithorn Trust’s Heath and Safety Policy.
- Front of house staff will undertake any other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post as may be determined from time to time by the Development Manager.
