Volunteer Customer Service and Retail Assistant - Discount Store

Do you love meeting new people? 

As a Customer Service volunteer, you will be the face of our shops, greeting everyone with a smile and a warm welcome. You will work alongside a fantastic team of staff and volunteers, helping to create a great shopping experience that will keep bringing our customers back and recommending us to others. Martlets Discount shop is very different to our other shops, we have customers who regularly purchase large quantities of items.
Where: Discount Shop, Sussex House industrial estate, Od Shoreham Road Hove BN3 7DX
When: Monday to Saturday but especially Mondays & Fridays
Usual minimum commitment: 4-hour weekly morning or afternoon session
What you’ll be doing:

• Greeting customers and creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere
• Serving customers on the till, handling cash and card payments
• Talking about Gift Aid, explaining why it is important and helping customers sign up
• Prepared to regularly replenish stock (such as clothes, bric a brac etc)
• Keeping the shop floor looking great by tidying displays, refilling clothes rails and general housekeeping
• Occasionally helping in our Furniture Showroom (run on the same site)

Your skills and abilities:
• Friendly manner – good with people 
• Retail experience is always welcomed but not essential as training will be given
• An Interest in clothing, books, records, fashion is also welcomed
• You may be required to stand for long periods – Let us know if you have mobility problems
Expectations:
• To attend Martlets Welcome day and participate in any Martlets training relevant to the role
• You will need to be reliable, flexible and willing to assist the manager
• Be committed to good Customer Service
• Work as part of a team of staff and volunteers
