How we will support you

We can offer you ‘taster’ sessions in the shops and on the van so you can get an idea of what volunteering for us will be like. Once you decide you wish to continue volunteering, we will ensure you are shown how to carry out each of the tasks and that you are fully trained in the jobs you do with guidance from the shop manager and driver. We will ensure that you familiarise yourself and comply with the Health and Safety Policy, Fire Procedure, Manual Handling, GDPR and any other training where appropriate. It is also extremely important that you maintain strict confidentiality at all times. We would also ask that you adhere to the no smoking policy.

What you can gain from volunteering

  • A chance to work in a friendly team, to make new friends and meet a diverse group of people

  • The time to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to gain valuable work experience to add onto your CV and to learn new skills

  • Flexibility to fit with your lifestyle

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical ability to fulfil the requirements of the role including safe moving and manual handling

  • A driving licence would be preferable so that you can assist with driving the van, but this is not essential

  • Be competent and uphold health and safety standards at all times

As a volunteer you will never be made to do any tasks that you are uncomfortable with, we rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of our volunteers and want them to feel happy in the role. Full training will be given and there is always help and support on hand if you need it. Volunteering hours are flexible on days and times required.
