Job description

Volunteer with Youth Rangers - Brighton

Location: Deneway Nature Reserve - Brighton

Overview of the role:

Assist staff to deliver Youth Rangers for 16 – 25yr olds. This role will include assisting in environmental education, from species I.D and recording to habitat improvement and practical conservation tasks. You will be mentoring and encouraging young people throughout the day as well as helping with preparation and packing up. This group of young conservationists are involved in the development of the Deneway Reserve, so it is important to listen and encourage their ideas. Type of tasks you will be involved with: Tasks include facilitating safe tool use, fire lighting, some Forest School activities, and games, wildlife gardening, scrub clearance, removal of non-native species, woodland management.

Experience/Skills Required:

Volunteers must be aged 18 and over and have a reasonable level of physical fitness and interest in wildlife and conservation. Volunteers must be open to working with a diverse range of young people, including those with different needs, but you do not necessarily have to have prior experience, just lots of enthusiasm. All volunteers will be asked to comply under health and safety regulations and will be asked to complete a DBS check. Days/Times we would like you to be available: These sessions run on Wednesdays from 10:00-15:00 at the Deneway Nature Reserve, Brighton. Ideally volunteers will arrive early to help with set up and packing tools away after session.
