In the Faculty of Science - Department of Physics - the following position is to be filled for the summer term 2026: W3 University Professorship (f/m/d) for Experimental Physics

Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have an internationally visible research profile in a promising field in the area of materials for optoelectronics and photonics, which is visible through publications in high-ranking journals, successful acquisition of third-party funding and national and international collaborations. Relevant teaching experience is expected as well as a proven willingness to cooperate and experience in collaborative research. Furthermore, the willingness to teach in German after a transition period is expected.

Expectations:

Applicants are expected to work in a promising field of materials physics/materials science and to complement the focus areas “Optoelectronics and Photonics” and “Materials Science” of the Department of Physics thematically and methodologically with a modern research area that is complementary and compatible with existing research groups. The scientific focus of the applicants should be in the field of research on materials for optoelectronics and photonics. One example is the production of functional materials, e.g. materials for sensor technology or integrated optics, sustainable materials, smart materials, quantum materials.

Another area of interest is material analysis using modern methods, e.g. scanning probe methods, transmission electron microscopy, spectroscopic methods.

This focus is intended to complement and strengthen the existing inter-departmental and inter-faculty research activities in Paderborn. A connection to scientific institutions such as the Center for Optoelectronics and Photonics Paderborn (CeOPP), the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS) or the Center for Sustainable Systems Design (CSSD) is desirable. Active participation in and initiation of third-party funded projects and coordinated programs is expected.

The future post holder should represent the areas of Experimental Physics and materials science in teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs for students in the major and minor subject in full breadth. Collaboration in academic self-administration is considered a matter of course.

Recruitment requirements:

§ 36 section 1 nos. 1 to 4 HG NRW (completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, doctorate and additional academic achievements).
