Recruiter: Rachael
About this client: Amy, aged 26, is generally a very happy and content young lady who loves being around people. She enjoys going on walks, shopping, being read stories, watching TV, and being sung silly songs! Her Mum will quite often hear what she describes as ‘Amy’s dirty laugh’ echoing through the house as her carers do all sorts of things to make her laugh before bed. Amy also likes the occasional pub trip so she can watch the slot machines and listen to everyone’s conversation! Amy has quadriplegic cerebral palsy with global developmental delay. She is a full-time wheelchair user, has poor head control and is unable to sit/stand unaided. Amy needs help with every aspect of her daily living, including PEG feeding and full assistance with her personal care. Amy is non-verbal but communicates her needs through vocalisations and facial expressions.
Overview of role: Amy and her family are looking for an additional SEN Waking Night Carer to join the team. In this role you will closely monitor Amy during the night and tend to all her care needs. This will involve assisting Amy when she wakes, needs repositioning or changing, and then help her get ready for the day ahead in the mornings. Amy has been sleeping much better recently and typically will sleep a solid 5 to 7 hours without waking. There is a TV in Amy’s bedroom which can be watched with the volume down low. On the Monday morning after the Sunday shift the Carer will take Amy to her day centre which is about a 15-minute drive away. There is also an additional Thursday evening shift, 5.00pm to 10.00pm available. This will involve assisting Amy with teatime, bathing and settling her into bed. There are often extra hours available to cover staff sickness and holiday. Day/Evening shifts are offered at £18.00 Gross Per Hour. Waking Night Shifts at £17.00 Gross Per Hour.
Who this job would suit: This role will suit someone who can use their own initiative and is motivated to help others. Having some flexibility to cover staff sickness and holiday would be greatly appreciated. Although having previous SEN experience would be desirable the family provide fantastic training and are interested in hearing from *female Support Workers who have the right ‘can do’ attitude and positive persona. It is however important that you have some prior experience working in a night role.
What’s great about this job: You will be joining a small, friendly, and very supportive team. The family offer full, on-shift training as well as additional training courses. There are also team dinners arranged which creates a lovely opportunity to bond with the team.
