Advanced Practitioner - Waltham Forest - Fostering Team

The post is that of Advanced Practitioner within the Fostering Team which is in the Children and Families Services and is responsible for all aspects of recruitment, assessment, support and supervision to approved foster carers and connected carers. The fostering service in Waltham Forest has re-shaped, bringing together its assessment and support service to provide consistency in support provided to our foster carers. Social workers working in this service will be committed to establishing trusting relationships with their carers during the assessment stage, building on this further post approval and supporting them during their first placements when they are at their most vulnerable. Applicants will report to the Deputy Team Manager and the Team Manager and deputise in their absence. Applicants will supervise up to 3 social workers within the team and have an excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation, performance issues, ability to manage conflict and a myriad of tasks involved as a manager. Applicants should have experience of working in children's services. The applicant will need to have an understanding of the Mockingbird programme and will be expected to support Mockingbird Liaison Workers and Constellations as the Mockingbird Co-ordinator. Applicants would need experience of managing staff, be resilient and robust in a fast paced and highly regulated service. Applicants will be enthusiastic and highly committed to providing high support and challenge to staff and our foster carers to ensure that the children of Waltham Forest receive quality care in a warm family environment.

Your main responsibilities include:

* Hold and effectively manage a complex and varied caseload with appropriate supervision, guidance, and support, reflecting the function of the team and the Vulnerable People Service in accordance with policy, procedures, guidance and legislation.
* Undertake work within legislative frameworks including the preparation of written statements and representations to the judiciary at Court hearings.
* You will be accountable for complex decision making in relation to caseloads ensuring professional judgement, service user involvement, needs led assessment, critical reflection, and analysis to inform this.
* You will identify and assess levels of risk and need (within statutory frameworks) in often complex situations. Undertake safeguarding investigations and deliver protective and/or supportive services for individuals at risk and maintain up to date assessments, care plans and reviews.
* You will be preparing statements of need/care and support plans, in consultation with other agencies as appropriate, that reflect the wishes of the individual and lead to the commissioning of personalised packages of care.
* You will undertake direct work with adults and their families in line with care plans.
* You will work co-operatively with both internal and external colleagues across multi - agency boundaries.

Essential requirements:

* Social Work England registration
* Eligible to work in the UK
* 2 years+ post-qualified experience
* Degree level or equivalent in Social Work
