Waste Technician

Our Client, Urenco; trusted, long-term supplier to the nuclear industry, specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services, are looking for a Waste Technician on a contract basis (inside IR35), to be based in Capenhurst near Chester.
Rate: £20-23 per hour PAYE
What will your day look like?
• Carry out safe operations in accordance with SSOW and company/operating instructions
• Operate plant equipment in order to ensure delivery to programmes
• Active involvement in improvement projects / initiatives
• Work to a high quality of attention to detail to ensure compliant inspection, storage and processing of radioactive materials with relation to Operations and its associated operations.
• To contribute to the improvement of a safe environment / general housekeeping of the working area, particularly in their own area of responsibility.
• Where appropriate, assist in the training and development of others to appropriate standards.
• Complies with all legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures eg) safety, quality, risk, security etc applicable to the role.
• Operational day to day plant inspections.
• Carry out Health Physics Monitoring in accordance to operating instructions.
• Ensure instrumentation used to provide measurements has been functionally tested before use.
• To undertake radiation and contamination surveys as directed by the site RPA
• Complete Self-verification of procedures / documentation applicable to Waste Operations.
• Carry out Observations and submit observation cards
• Update and write Operating Instructions to support Waste Operations.
• Carry out Risk Assessment in support of Operating Instruction write up.
• Facilitate Plant visits within the Waste Management Facility.
• Record events, Self-Verifications and Workplace Inspections on ReACT. Assign actions accordingly. Own actions as generated from audits, workplace inspections, etc.
Carrying out Waste Management activities such as:
- Sorting
- Segregating
- Sampling
- Assay / Characterisation
- Processing
- Collection/transport
