About the role

We are currently looking for a Water Quality Scientist to join our busy Water Quality and Compliance team. The team are responsible for ensuring we can demonstrate that Northumbrian Water meets our regulatory requirements for drinking Water Quality.


The main focus of the role will be to prepare, collate and interpret data to help identify areas for improvement and assess performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for all Water Quality regulatory compliance submissions and inhouse reporting allowing us to comply with best practice with reference to Water Quality and integration of appropriate legislation.


The successful candidate will contribute towards the protection of public health and will provide data insights and advice to key internal and external customers. To do this the candidate will also have to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local health authorities, NAVs and the Drinking Water Inspectorate.


Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked


About you

You’ll will be a good self-motivator, and have the ability to work independently, prioritising workloads to ensure deadlines are met. The role may involve working across sites in both the Northumbrian and Essex & Suffolk regions, so a willingness to travel is essential.

We’re looking for the successful candidate to be creative and decisive, and have the ability to work accurately to deadlines. You’ll have effective inter-personal skills and be capable of consulting with a range of internal stakeholders and external regulators. You will be a competent user of IT reporting tools including Business Intelligence.

You will have experience of using and managing large sets of data, a competent user of Microsoft applications especially excel and be comfortable writing clear and concise reports.


Knowledge of drinking water regulations, water treatment and distribution systems would be beneficial as would a working knowledge of laboratory reporting systems.

You must hold a full driving licence and be educated to science degree level.
