Job description

Working under the direct supervision of the Service Lead and strictly in accordance with specific service guidelines and protocols, the Weekend Cataract Receptionist will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of patient care. Open up building according to protocol. Ensure the main doors are open and signs are displayed in the relevant places. Ensure the chairs and waiting area is tidy.
Check the fridge temperatures, fill in the log and reset the fridges. Log on to the Ophthalmology clinic software (Eye Software Reception) on the computer. Ensure there is a printed clinic list for Reception, admitting HCA, discharging HCA, scrub team and ophthalmologist. Print patient OP labels for admitting HCA, discharging HCA and scrub team.
Check patients in as they arrive, make sure that their personal details on the system are correct and ask them to take a seat. After the patient has been discharged from theatre, you will advise them that they will be contacted in around 7 days for their telephone review. Undertake the 7-day follow-up telephone call for the patients who were operated on the previous weekend. Book a review appointment, if needed in the post-cataract clinic.
Print surgical lists and patient ID labels. At the end of the day, send all patient reports to patients GP/Optometrist via Ophthalmology Centre. Send IOL order forms to lens provider via email. Ensure all areas are tidy at the end of the shift.
Secure and lock the building according to the protocol.
