At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Welding Technician at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.
The role
As a Welding Technician, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will support the repair and maintenance activities on the Royal Navy's Warships and Submarines at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Day to day, you'll support production activities and external customers as well as:
- Carrying out the development and welding of Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPQR). This involves working closely with a welding engineer and the setting up and operating of welding equipment.
- Assisting welding engineers in the research and develop of new welding processes and technologies.
- Assisting welding engineers in the development and review of preliminary welding procedure specifications (pWPS).
- Assisting and supporting welding engineers review and update current welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Working in conjunction with Babcock's Weld Quality Management System (ISO3834-2) to ensure quality practises are adhered to.
This role is full time - 36 hours and will be based at on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Welding Technician:
- An engineering background through either an apprentice training scheme, or college training.
- An adequate degree of computer literacy; experience in using engineering software would be an advantage.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of submarines / surface ships in both structural applications and pipe systems.
- An understanding of welding processes and techniques.

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
