Job description

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with effect from June 2024 to the post of Welfare and Attendance Officer

You will have a pivotal role in supporting children across the school daily, as well as working with families to support them with Early Help and with Safeguarding concerns, as well as tackling low attendance.  You will be joining a caring and supportive staff and a school with wellbeing at the heart of all we do.  We are a school who have embedded the Thrive Approach, as well as offering all children the Forest Schools programme weekly. 

Hours of work: 8.30am - 4.30pm

We are looking for someone who: 

  • Is passionate about supporting vulnerable children and families. 
  • Is driven and determined to make a difference, can work independently using their own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Is interested in education and its impact on the lives of children.
  • Has up to date knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures. 
  • Has experience of working with families to overcome barriers to ensure their child reaches their potential at school.
  • Has experience of working with professional agencies including social care. 
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills to both support and challenge families.
  • Can work effectively with and without direction.
  • Enthusiasm, energy, integrity and professionalism. 

Your core duties will be: 

  • To establish trusting relationships with our children and their families, particularly those with emotional needs and learning barriers.
  • Support children with emotional regulation throughout the day.
  • To work successfully alongside colleagues to support identified families, offering advice, support and guidance.
  • To act as a core member of the Safeguarding team, attending meetings as required and ensuring the Schools Safeguarding system is kept up to date.
  • To liaise with external agencies, including early help, and establish successful, professional relationships. 
  • To monitor attendance of all children and challenge / support low attendance following policies and procedures.
