Job description

We have an opportunity for a Widening Participation Officer to join us to work on meaningful projects that make the University of Nottingham a diverse place to study. In this role, you will advocate for groups under-represented in higher education. You will contribute to the development, review, and continuous improvement of Widening Participation policies, programmes, and activities. For example, contextual admissions, bursaries and recruitment projects with admissions tutors. You will work on programmes that provide experience of higher education to high achieving prospective students (aged 16-18) from less advantaged backgrounds. This will include organising and delivering: campus visit days residential summer schools parent and teacher sessions training for student ambassadors masterclasses and revision classes information events and study skills activities As our Widening Participation Officer, you will use relationship building and communication skills, as well as keen attention to detail. You will have the ability to deal with sensitive issues in an appropriate manner, collaborating with a network of contacts to resolve them. You will be experienced in delivering presentations and organising events of different scales for varied audiences. Your IT skills will underpin every aspect of the role, allowing you to complete tasks effectively and efficiently. In the Widening Participation and Outreach team, we deliver sessions to primary, and secondary pupils, as well as mature students. These activities provide insight into University life and show that anyone can continue study after school. As part of the team, you will be invited to contribute to our open days and collaborate with colleagues in working groups which focus on important topics such as equality, diversity, inclusivity, and the environment. Your varied workload will require occasional work on evenings and weekends to deliver events, such as the residential summer schools that take place in July. In the run up to the summer schools, you may be required to work additional hours and for two weeks in July to cover weekend and evening activities. You can receive overtime payments for a proportion of these additional hours, and equivalent time off work for the rest. If invited to interview, you will be asked to prepare a presentation in advance.  The post is offered on a fixed term contract until 31 July 2026. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
