About BFFC

Brighter Futures for Children is a not-for-profit company, owned by, but independent of, Reading Borough Council. Although we are independent, we are very much part of the Reading Family. Our people enjoy all of benefits as other Council employees including membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and continuous service.

We work closely with partners in the local community and key organisations including Reading Borough Council, policy, public health and voluntary groups. We are responsible for the delivery of children’s social care, early help & prevention, education services (including SEND). This also includes fostering and adoption, the Youth Offending Service and traded services with schools.

Our main aim is to protect and enhance the lives of the children of Reading. We help families find long-term solutions to ensure children lead happy, healthy and successful lives.

About Team/Role

The government’s ambition is that by 2026, all parents and carers of primary school-aged children who need it will be able to access term time childcare in their local area from 8am-6pm, so that parents can access employment and improve labour market participation.

To support this ambition, the government announced that it will provide up to £289 million of start-up funding over two academic years to support local authorities and providers in England to introduce or expand childcare provision on either side of the school day, which parents of primary school-aged children will be able to pay to access.

The Wraparound Childcare Coordinator is an exciting new role within the established Early Years Team. The position has been developed to ensure that we deliver on the commitment to expand the wraparound offer in Reading. You will work collaboratively with the public, key agencies and internal teams to lead on the successful implementation of the project, ensuring childcare demand is met and future proofing the market.

This is a rewarding new role which will see you working widely with education, the public and the childcare sector to expand childcare.

Applicants will have a relevant childcare/play work qualification and a breadth of experience working with children aged 4-11 years in an out of school/childminding setting. You will have led and managed childcare projects working collaboratively with the public and key agencies to ensure success.   It is essential that you have experience of managing a childcare business and leading a team to provide a high quality, inclusive childcare service. Applicants will be able to demonstrate creative and innovative approaches to increasing childcare supply ensuring growth and sustainability in Reading. Practice of evaluating, monitoring and developing a service is essential.

  • Salary Sacrifice Car Lease Scheme
  • A range of local shopping discounts
