It's an exciting time to join us!
We’re interested in speaking to people from all walks of life. Successful Process Operators could have previously been postmen, nurses, soldiers, retail workers, care workers or drivers to name a few!
Your experience in any industry is valuable to us here at Southern Water. You have the opportunity earn a great base salary package of up to £25,066.80 plus a great company benefits package, in a role with stability and progression combined. In addition, you have the opportunity to increase your earnings through standby and overtime.
There will not be many roles you see where you can have a significant impact on the environment and directly impact the satisfaction of customers. You are frontline superheroes at Southern Water. So, whoever you are and whatever your background we’ve a meaningful career right here, ready for you to dive right into.
You will be part of the frontline operations team in the Peel Common, Hampshire area and the business simply cannot operate without you. Every day is different, you will be working in all weather conditions carrying out a range of tasks, to ensure the essential functions of our wastewater treatment works and wastewater pumping stations operate to maintain the supply to our customers and protect the environment.
Process operators have gone on to achieve roles such as Field Performance Manager, and indirect pathways to Process Science roles – these are the technical experts in the process operation arena. You may also gain indirect knowledge of mechanical and electrical specialisms which could prove to be a future field of study with the skills you will gain. Southern Water can support this ambition with upskilling apprenticeships and other training, so joining Southern Water as a Process Operator could sufficiently prepare you for other roles across the business in the future.
Although work is generated to you on a weekly basis, you will be managing your own time, giving you the freedom and flexibility to design your own working week, you will learn how to be organised and proactive.
You will undertake as part of the role:
  • Compliance testing.
  • Maintenance tasks - unblocking pumps, screens and valves to ensure continuous plant operation.
  • Repair of alarms systems.
  • Monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
  • Fault finding and problem-solving skills are essential to respond to breakdowns.
  • Site Hygiene in line with our regulatory obligations.

You will be:
  • Comfortable working outdoors, potentially in all weather conditions.
  • Prepared to work within the company’s rota of a 7-day working week and participate on a standby rota.
  • Part of a team who delivers excellent performance by understanding how you affect the overall mission of Southern Water.
  • Have a good sense of humour, because of what you will be working with and not to be too squeamish…
  • Adaptable, flexible, patient, reliable and self-motivated.
  • Good with time management
  • Confident to work effectively and efficiently on your own.
  • Keen to learn and operate complex processes with high quality controls.

Qualifications:
  • GCSEs grade 3 including Maths, English and Science
  • Valid UK Manual Drivers Licence

Join our Wastewater Process Team and see how far your career could progress with a company committed to career progression, training and development opportunities, responsible growth, and improvement.
If you like the sound of the role and would be interested to hear more, please apply now. We look forward to hearing from you.
Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? Whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution. So why not engage with us and find out more about this role?
Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, because delivering water for life is our core purpose. To achieve this, we need 24/7 support in place to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. All our employees understand the importance of out-of-hours incident support – because when problems appear, fixing them is our top priority. That’s why our people join together and support when and however needed to make sure our customers get the service they deserve. Joining the Southern Water family means you’ll become part of our incident support team. During your interview, your manager will speak to you about any incident support rotas that apply to your position.
