JOB DESCRIPTION: Yard Operative
REPORTS TO: Yard Foreman – Operations Manager

Essential Requirements:
- High levels of Health and Safety standards.
- Numerate and literate.
- Excellent verbal communication.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Customers and Co-Workers.
- Diligent attention to detail.

- Flexibility.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience of working in a similar environment.
- Current Forklift Certificate (B1 Counterbalance)
- Loading shovel or 360 machine operator tickets
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following sets out a non-exhaustive list of the essential duties of the role.
- Effective separation of waste streams.
- Daily walk around checks of plant.
- Report any defects of plant to Yard Foreman / Operations Director.
- Basic daily maintenance.
- Ensure plant and machinery is used and treated properly and with respect.
- Control drivers and third party tippers, if there is no space, put skips down and tip consistently throughout the day.
- Ensure yard is clear at all times.
- Ensure that bins and stillages are emptied each evening ready for the start of work the following day.
- Ensure the safety of yourself, fellow colleagues, agency staff and visitors at all times.
- Ensure that you are in a fit and proper state to work and control heavy machinery.
- Ensure that all team members and visitors wear appropriate PPE.
- Control point emissions (dust, litter, water yard etc).
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure accidents are kept to a minimum.
- Report any accidents as soon as possible and in compliance with the company’s accident reporting procedure
- Attend essential training in order to carry out your role.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, to include the Company Standards of
Performance and Health and Safety Policy.
Physical Demands:
- Loading and unloading of goods from vehicles.
- General manual handling.
Education and Experience:
- Basic numeracy & literacy.
- Preferable to have experience within similar environment.
