Job description

Young Carers Practitioner – Support Young Carers
Maidenhead, Berkshire (with hybrid working)
About Us
At Family Action we transform lives by providing practical, emotional and financial support to those who are experiencing poverty, disadvantage and social isolation. We have been building stronger families since 1869 and today we work with more than 60,000 families in over 150 community-based services, as well as supporting thousands more through national programmes and grants.
We run Young Carers Support Services across England to alleviate the pressures of providing care, by mobilising support around the young carer and their family. We work collaboratively with parents and young people aged 5–18, helping them to navigating the emotional, practical and physical realities of life as a young carer.
We are currently seeking a Young Carers Practitioner to join us for a fixed term contract until 31st March 2025, on a part-time basis, working 28 hours per week over four days.
The Benefits
- Salary of £24,724 - £27,232 (pro rata) per annum
- Generous annual leave allowance
- Generous pension scheme
- Eye care vouchers
- Professional development opportunities
- Cycle-to-work scheme
This is a brilliant opportunity for a compassionate individual with experience of working with young people and their families to join our crucial organisation.
In this highly rewarding role, your work will make an incredible difference to the lives of Young Carers, increasing their access to wellbeing support and allowing them to be children.
By joining us, you’ll become a member of a team of like-minded individuals who champion diversity and inclusion in all that they do, as they work to build a more equitable and supportive world.
The Role
As a Young Carers Practitioner, you will help to support Young Carers with their wellbeing and development.
Providing interventions, you will co-produce bespoke support action plans that focus on ‘what matters to me’, and work with Young Carers to ensure their voices are heard, as well as reducing the negative impact of caring.
Additionally, you will work with the Young Carers Team to promote the service locally, raising awareness of Young Carers in the community and motivating professionals and teams to make referrals to the Young Carers Service.
About You
To be considered as a Young Carers Practitioner, you will:
- Experience of working with young people from all age groups and their families
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and engaging with multiple services
- The ability to identify support needs and plan, implement and monitor support
- Working knowledge of the role of statutory and voluntary organisations providing care
- Excellent IT and administration skills, including the use of case management systems
- A full, valid driving licence with access to your own vehicle for work purposes
The closing date for applications is 15th April 2024.
Other organisations may call this role Social Care Practitioner, Young Carers Support Worker, Social Worker, Family Support Practitioner, or Family Support Worker.
