The salary for this role is £34,138 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

This role involves hybrid working, between home our offices in Burpham, Guildford where there is free parking on site.

Our young carers team are commissioned by statutory services to provide one-to-one support and opportunities for time out and fun to children and young people across Surrey.

About the Role
This role is specifically tasked with supporting young carers aged between 14 and 17. We are looking for an adaptable and confident practitioner with the key skills to support young people to have fairer futures and reach their full potential.

As this is a new role, you must have the ambition and energy to scope, design and implement an exciting program which effectively engages with this age group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To motivate, encourage and lead groups of young people.
  • To design and evaluate impact of sessions within allocated budget.
  • To work 1:1 with young carers through assessing and reviewing their needs, providing advocacy and signposting.
  • To network and represent SYC with stakeholders and doners.
  • To ensure the voice of carers informs service delivery.
  • To help the organisation work to achieving quarterly KPI's, as set by our commissioners.
  • To provide data, case studies and inform policies and procedures that support the aims of the charity.


About you
  • You will be a confident practitioner with a clear communication style and have the skills to effectively lead and motivate young people.
  • You will be able to work on your own initiative.
  • You will have a proven professional experience of working with children, young people and families.
  • You will have a systematic approach to your work, particularly with monitoring, recording and managing outcomes for young carers.
  • You will have experience of recording service user information on databases and have confidence in using a range software packages.
  • You will have had a proven work history in managing safeguarding concerns and have a good understanding of data protection legislation.

Young Carers are available during evenings, weekends and the school holiday period. You must have the flexibility to run activities during times that are most convenient to young people. Your work will also include visiting schools and colleges, youth centres, activity centres and other locations throughout Surrey.
